It’s been a sad week for my home country, South Africa, as Xenophobic violence once again marred our history and our future. I remember all too well the nightmare that took place in 2008 and the aftermath of what we all hoped would never be repeated.
I often wonder if you can return to yourself after causing such harm to another human being. Can you ever really get back what your actions robbed you of – your humanity. Is it possible to return your heart to love once it has been so consumed by hate, or is there a point of no return – a dark hole just too deep to climb out of?
Hate breeds more hate, until all dignity, all respect, all goodness suffocates in its choke-hold. Hate will not rest until it kills your soul and you can no longer claim to be human.
